Starting your journey to sugar-free-dom can be hard, here are 3 ways you can get started...
1. Stop drinking your sugar; sodas and other fizzy drinks are packed full of hidden sugars, which not only pack in the calories but also send our bodies into a hormonal spin. If you like some fizz then experiment with club soda/fizzy water and add in a slice of lemon and fresh ginger or some herbs. You could also step a fruity herbal tea and dilute with fizzy water. Also beware of artificial sweeteners, despite being calorie free they still create hormonal chaos and research has shown that consuming them leads to obesity in the same way sugar free drinks do.
2. Stop blending and juicing your fruit and stick to eating whole fruit. When we consume the whole fruit we are also consuming the fructose (fruit sugar) as part of a web of fibre. This web of fibre slows down the absorption of sugars in the body. This is particularly important with fructose as it is mainly processed by the liver and is readily stored as fat when too much is consumed.
3. Read food labels so you can identify hidden sugars. Jarred sauces like pasta sauces are notoriously high in sugar and often contain artificial sweeteners as well as sugar in the form of high fructose corn syrup. Also avoid anything that says 'low fat' or 'diet' on the labelling. If fat is removed then the food industry uses sugar to give flavour.
